The purpose of this article is to briefly list the main factors that led Brazil and Argentina to overcome traditional and futile rivalries in the 1980s and 1990s. The two countries were subsequently able to build bilateral mechanisms of economic cooperation that were later extended to their two smaller neighbors – Paraguay and Uruguay – which resulted in the g of the Treaty of Asuncion in 1991. 3v3p1m
